• Arrested: Daniel A. Hermosillo, 34, Boise
  • Charges: Grand Theft (F), Burglary (F)

Boise Police arrested Daniel Hermosillo yesterday afternoon, February 12th, following a detailed investigation into retail crime in the area. Evidence obtained by Boise Police Organized Retail Crimes Officers Cody Evans and Terry Weir indicates the suspect has been involved in multiple fraudulent transactions at sporting goods stores beginning in 2009. The investigation indicates the suspect would commit thefts, then return the items to stores in exchange for gift cards. Those gift cards have been used to purchase multiple firearms over the last several years. The suspect was taken into custody yesterday at 10:00 a.m. as he exited a West Boise sporting goods store carrying a firearm purchased with gift cards.

“The suspect would steal from numerous retail stores and committed these thefts intermittently over the last few years making this a challenging investigation." Says Curt Crum, Boise Retail Crimes Supervisor. “ It takes cooperation between retailers and law enforcement to make a real impact on this kind of crime, saving consumers money in the long run.”

Officers later obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s home and recovered firearms obtain in the scheme. Additional charges may be pending.  After a detailed investigation the suspect was transported to the Ada County Jail and booked on the above listed charges.

The Boise Police Department has developed a positive, productive working relationship with loss prevention agents from many local retail stores, large and small, local and national chains. The goal of the program is to work with retailers and the Boise business community to reduce retail theft and fraud, crimes that have significant impacts on consumer prices.
